Economic Policy Discussions
The objective of our Economic Policy Discussions is to enable a platform for regional Asian communities and global stakeholders to meet and discuss ideas and solutions for the long term sustainable economic development and advancement of Asian economies and the stability of their underlying financial markets.
As a track record we first started holding multi-stakeholder economic Discussions in the frontier market of Myanmar (Burma) in January of 2016.
These Discussions were first held periodically in 2016, monthly in 2017 and by 2018 these Discussions had evolved into a more structured format which we messaged as Economic Development and Outlook Discussions. The data points collected and important viewpoints and anecdotal evidence uncovered can be viewed by reviewing the Executive Summaries that have been written up from 2018 onwards.
We have taken on topics that range from Monetary Policy issues with the participation of regional Central Bankers to the difficult issues of the Economic cost of Rakhine to the importance of addressing Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Compliance issues with active collaboration of local and global stakeholders.
To stimulate an honest discussion amongst all stakeholders we typically create comfort zone areas for congenial discussions on a range of topics with Chatham House Rules.
In 2018 we branched out regionally when we initiated a number of critical Discussions of regional significance when we launched the first Indo-Pacific Dialogue in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Important topics that have emanated from this first Indo-Pacific Dialogue have centered around the issues of Digital Trade to Financing Infrastructure, both of which have been the subject for much of our Indo-Pacific Engagement and Policy Groups initiative in 2019.
In 2019 we also launched the Climate Change Economics initiative, which helped bring an important Economic Policy Discussions on the subject of Energy diversification & reforms as drivers of stability & peace, to the South East Asia region for the first time.
Moving forward with the Editorial support and thought leadership provided by all the stakeholders who are collaborating with the Asian Economic Forum, we are now in the early planning stages to bring Economic focused Policy Discussions to the following cities in Bangkok, Hanoi, Jakarta and Manila in 2020 and beyond.
Dates and additional details to follow.
